"Whatever words we utter should be chosen with care for people will hear them and be influenced by them for good or ill." -Buddha
Words are powerful and they matter.
Words can change the way we think and the way we feel.
Words can give us a sense of direction when we are lost; hope when we feel hopeless; inspiration when we are unable to inspire ourselves and comfort during the times when life hits us hard.
Then there are the other words. The ones that hurt us; cutting us deep without ceasing. The types of words that break us into little pieces of our former selves. The ones that discourage us and play on our fears and insecurities.
These type of words I prefer to do without.
The words I like are the ones that help to move me from where I am to where I want to go.
The words I like are the ones that help me to see my situation from a different perspective.
The words I like are the ones that make me stop and think and somehow manage to touch the deepest parts of me.
The words I like are the ones that make me believe my dreams are possible.
Here are eight quotes I have recently come across that are made up of words I like.
"In fact, when you are fearful or scared it is because you actually have no evidence that you can or can’t do it, which is all the more reason to try. It is natural to feel apprehension as you have no proof that you will succeed, but the good news is, you have no proof that you won’t either. If indeed we desire to take that leap of faith and work toward a dream that others may not grasp yet or pursue a life change that breaks the mold, we are fearful partially because we are excited about the change it will bring and fearful that we won’t be able to make it happen. In this case, so long as you believe more resolutely that you can rather than you can’t, you will be successful." - Shannon Ables
"Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a picture of yourself succeeding. Hold onto this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop this picture. Never think of yourself as failing; never doubt the reality of the mental image. That is most dangerous, for the mind always tries to complete what it pictures. Always picture success no matter how bad things are going." -Norman Vincent Peale
"Often people attempt to live their lives backward; they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want so they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do, in order to have what you want." Margaret Young
"The reward for conformity was that everyone liked you except yourself." -Rita Mae Brown
"Your value is the product of your thoughts. Do not miscalculate your self-worth by multiplying your insecurities." -Dodinsky
"Let yourself be silently drawn by the stronger pull of what you really love." - Rumi
"What I emphasize is for people to make choices based not on fear, but on what really gives them a sense of fulfillment." - Pauline Rose Chance
"Before you tell your life what you intend to do with it, listen for what it intends to do with you. Before you tell your life what truths and values you have decided to live up to, let your life tell you what truths and values you embody, what values you represent."- parker j. palmer
